Exhibits featuring work by eight accomplished artists working in a variety of media will be on display in 2016-17 at the Wright Gallery, located in the College of Architecture on the second floor of Building A in the Langford Architecture Center.

Seven former students from the Texas A&M College of Architecture who have risen to the top of their respective fields while making significant public service contributions were honored as outstanding alumni during a Friday, Oct. 14, 2016 banquet at Traditions Club in Bryan.

Tales were spun and tributes made during a roast honoring legendary Texas A&M construction science professor Bob Segner, who retired at the end of the 2016 semester after a stellar 46-year teaching career.

This summer, Texas A&M student artists will test the limits of conventional art in “Maneuvers,” a student art exhibit in the Wright Gallery, said exhibit curator Steven Caffey, instructional assistant professor of architecture.

In two upcoming painting series, recently honored Texas A&M Art Fellow Felice House, assistant professor of visualization, will counter the centuries-old Western art tradition of portraying women through a “male gaze.”

A group of metal sculptures displayed outside The Arts Center in College Station, created by students in a visualization sculpture class, created quite a buzz in the Bryan/College Station area, said Chris Dyer, CEO of The Arts Council of Brazos Valley.

Viz-a-GoGo, the 23rd annual showcase of digital wizardry conjured by visualization students from the Texas A&M College of Architecture, was staged in downtown Bryan May 4-7, 2016.

Photographers will explore Texas’ character, mythology and environmental issues in “You Are Here: Texas Photographers Respond to the Texas Landscape,” an exhibit scheduled April 21 – June 2, 2016, in the Wright Gallery, Building A of the Langford Architecture Center.

The roar of Aggie fans at athletic contests in 2016-17 will be led by Cooper Cox and Ian Moss, two Texas A&M undergraduate construction science students, selected as Yell Leaders in a February 16 student vote.

Posters by the Guerrilla Girls, an anonymous group of female artists displaying statements about sexism and racism, and paintings by artist Robin Tewes depicting men’s vulnerability and fragility will be displayed in the Wright Gallery, located on the second floor in Building A of Texas A&M’s Langford Architecture Center.

Discussions of race, rights and inclusivity throughout the Brazos Valley abounded at the Feb. 5 – 6, 2016 Open Data Build Day competition in which citizen teams vied for prize money by mining and manipulating census data to create spatially illustrated solutions for diversity-related challenges.

Former students are invited to submit items for the Class Acts section of the arch|one e-newsletter, which highlights professional achievements, as well as news briefs about marriages, births, retirements and whatever else former students care to share with the college community. Landscape architecture students teamed with design professionals at the 41st annual Aggie Workshop, a Feb. 5, 2016 event that included lectures, a charrette and a panel discussion hosted at Texas A&M by the student chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Leading by example, four former students of the Texas A&M College of Architecture have made generous commitments, endowing three professorships and creating a new fellowship to support a promising residential construction educator.

Nominations are under way for the Texas A&M College of Architecture's 2016 Outstanding Alumni Award, which honors former students who've made significant contributions to their profession and community. Nomination packages are due by March 1, 2016.
