Tales were spun and tributes made during a roast honoring legendary Texas A&M construction science professor Bob Segner, who retired at the end of the 2016 semester after a stellar 46-year teaching career .

Segner’s former classmates, former students, family and friends crowded into the Francis Hall auditorium that bears his name for the April 7, 2016 roast, hosted by the [Department of Construction Science] (http://cosc.arch.tamu.edu) .

One of his former students, Lauren Evans ’05, summarized Segner’s legacy.

“Aside from being a great man, he’s what I consider to be a giant in the industry,” said Evans, a university relations manager with [Kiewit] (http://www.kiewit.com) , a Nebraska-based contractor. “He champions all who thirst for knowledge and is one of the key components of the CoSci program. He is a respected partner to many of the program’s sponsors and the ultimate connector of faculty, students, parents of students, and industry leaders.”

Another speaker, J.R. Richardson ’68, relayed best wishes from the more than 150 of Segner’s former students at [Fluor] (http://www.fluor.com/pages/default.aspx) , a global engineering and construction company where Richardson is an executive project director.

Other roasters included Jim Thompson '68, Keith Dalton '85, Stan Marek ’69, Tim Ross ’01 and construction science students and yell leaders Cooper Cox and Ian Moss.

At the end of the roast, Segner, a former yell leader, led the crowd in a yell with Cox and Moss.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Construction degree in 1969, Segner joined the Texas A&M faculty as a graduate student in 1970, then earned a Master of Architecture in Construction Management Degree in 1971.

He is lauded by his many former students for turning them into leaders while teaching them what they would need to know to succeed in the construction industry.
