The Fall 2013 Architecture-for-Health Lecture Series featured 13 presentations by luminaries from the design and construction industries focused on [integrated project delivery] (http://www.aia.org/contractdocs/AIAS077630) — a collaborative design and construction process — as it relates to the building of modern health care facilities.

The lectures were [sponsored] (http://one.arch.tamu.edu/news/2013/8/23/lecture-sponsors/) by the Texas A&M College of Architecture's Center for Health Systems & Design.

The American Institute of Architects defines integrated project delivery (IPD) as "a collaborative alliance of people, systems, business structures and practices in a process that harnesses the talents and insights of all participants to optimize project results, increase value to the owner, reduce waste, and maximize efficiency through all phases of design, fabrication and construction."

This fall's Architecture-for-Health lectures will focus on various aspects of IPD expressed primarily through case studies examining a wide variety of health care facility projects, said George J. Mann, holder of the Ronald L. Skaggs, FAIA Professorship in Health Facilities Design and lecture series coordinator.

"Our distinguished speakers," he said, "will examine issues and trends toward achieving IPD, discuss its advantages and disadvantages and talk about legal and contractual ramifications."
