Vanegas moderates ‘green’ panel at global real estate convention

Four of the world’s leading “green” experts discussed sustainability, energy and “green” development in a March 6 forum moderated by Jorge Vanegas, dean of Texas A&M’s College of Architecture, at a global real estate [ convention] (http://www.mipim.com/mipim/) in Cannes, France.

Vanegas, an expert in built environment sustainability, moderated “Greening the City: Integration of Green Technology in Urban Developments” at [Marché International des Professionnels d'Immobilier] (http://www.mipim.com/mipim/) [ 2012] (http://www.mipim.com/mipim/) , an annual convention attended by global property sector professionals that featured networking events and more than 60 real estate forums with 250 speakers.

Panelists, including “green” design pioneer Ken Yeang, a former professor of practice at Texas A&M, discussed solution-oriented methods, ideas and insights for implementing sustainable development.

The discussion was one of four sessions in MIPIM’s [ Qatar Urban Forum] (http://www.qatarurbanforum.com/) , featuring a diverse group of policymakers, industry experts and globally renowned real estate and urban development experts.

In addition to the “green” theme, panelists at the QUF also discussed conflicts between modernization and cultural identity in some parts of the world and the impact of those conflicts on the built environment.

The forums took place at the Qatar Pavilion, which also featured interactive exhibits of Qatari real estate companies’ development projects.

Vanegas holds a degree in architecture from Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Columbia, as well as Master of Science and doctorate degrees in construction engineering and management from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University.

His primary areas of expertise include built environment sustainability and advanced strategies, tools, and methods for integrated capital asset delivery. His scholarly focus also includes management, creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship for the architecture, engineering and construction industries.
