Dialogo on the Border, a 2013 conference about urban Texas-Mexico border issues sponsored in part by the diversity council at Texas A&M’s College of Architecture, has been recognized with an achievement award from the American Planning Association.

J. Thomas Regan, who as dean shepherded the Texas A&M College of Architecture through a formative decade, passed away peacefully March 5, 2015 in his Cape Cod, Mass. home. He was 74 years old. A memorial service for the professor emeritus of architecture will be held this spring in Osterville, Mass. on a date to be announced.

An elite group of urban planning researchers from Texas A&M University have been selected to play an integral role with scientists from 11 universities in a nationwide initiative aimed at helping communities prepare for and recover from natural disasters.

Art informed or inspired by science and created by current students and recent graduates from Texas A&M’s Department of Visualization will be on exhibit in “Supernova,” scheduled March 27 – May 9 at Fresh Arts, 2101 Winter St., Studio B11 in Houston.

For outstanding achievements in service and teaching architecture professor Charles Culp received the E.K. Campbell Award of Merit from the Life Members Club of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers.

Texas A&M researchers recently developed a new technique that facilitates the simulation and evaluation of daylight effects within a digitally rendered architectural model, significantly reducing the time and skills the process once required.

Texas A&M students are building build two “tiny houses” — a broad term generally referring to residences 300 square feet or less — that will be donated to a group providing affordable, sustainable housing for disabled, chronically homeless people in Central Texas.

For championing interdisciplinary education two Texas A&M College of Architecture professors, Jorge Vanegas, dean of the college, and Robert Warden, director of the Center for Heritage Conservation, were selected as recipients of the 2014 J. Thomas Regan Interdisciplinary Faculty Prize.

Design concepts created by Texas A&M architecture and landscape architecture students for a new outpatient and sports medicine facility in the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children will be unveiled Dec. 3 and 5 in College Station and Dec. 8 in Dallas.

Clint Brown ’78, director of software products at Esri, the world’s leading developer of geographic information system applications, will keynote Texas A&M’s GIS Day festivities 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 18 in Memorial Student Center Room 2300E.

Students in a fall 2014 figure drawing class led by Robert Schiffhauer, associate professor of architecture, created sketches from reenactments in a dark period of 19th century Native American life.

Visualization students created computer-animated objects with Houdini, the same software used to make blockbuster movies such as “Frozen,” at an Oct. 17-19, 2014 workshop hosted by Texas A&M’s Learning Interactive Visualization Experience Lab.

Edna Ledesma, a doctoral student in the Urban and Regional Sciences program at Texas A&M, earned two awards at a state planning conference for her role organizing Dialogo on the Border, an April 2013 conference in Brownsville, Texas.
