Ph.D. grad earns magazine’s Women in Architecture Award

For leading studies at [HKS Inc.] (http://www.hksinc.com/) on design’s impact on human health, Texas A&M former student Upali Nanda ’05 earned the Architectural Record’s 2018 [Women in Architecture Award] (https://www.architecturalrecord.com/articles/13597-architectural-record-announces-2018-women-in-architecture-award-winners) , an elite honor bestowed by the magazine on Nanda and four additional architects.

An associate principal at HKS, Nanada will be recognized with fellow honorees this October at a New York City event hosted by [Architectural Record] (https://www.architecturalrecord.com/) .

It’s the latest in a long line of [honors and achievements] (http://one.arch.tamu.edu/news/2013/10/22/former-student-head-research-efforts-hks-inc/) for Nanda, who has presented to audiences throughout the world her research findings in a wide array of topics, including healthcare facility safety, efficiency, and return on investment, and the role that visual elements, such as art, can play in patient recovery.

“Understanding how design can create better environments for all is at the heart of why we conduct research,” she said. “In an era of big data, cloud computing and social networks, there is also an emerging ethic of being evidence-based, sustainable and people-centered.”

Nanda earned a [Ph.D. in Architecture] (http://dept.arch.tamu.edu/graduate/phd/) degree at Texas A&M in 2005, a Master of Architecture degree at the National University of Singapore and a Bachelor of Architecture degree at the School of Planning and Architecture in New Delhi.
