Galen Newman’s research agenda earned a CELA honor.
Galen Newman, an associate professor at the Texas A&M College of Architecture, is the new editor of [Landscape Research Record] (http://thecela.org/landscape-research-record/) , a prestigious scholarly journal published by the [Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture] (http://thecela.org/) , a global organization that advocates for quality education and disseminates scholarship in the field.
Newman is also the CELA’s new vice president for research and creative scholarship.
The Research Record publishes articles selected from manuscripts submitted during CELA’s annual conference. The articles cover numerous topics in the field, including design education and implementation, sustainability, and landscape performance.
As editor, Newman leads landscape architecture educators and professionals who assess manuscripts for journal publication based on their review scores, contribution of new knowledge, and additional criteria. A select group of manuscript reviewers, also led by Newman, determines the year’s outstanding published paper.
An associate head of the [Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning] (http://laup.arch.tamu.edu/) , Newman studies the reuse of vacant properties in cities, land use science, spatial analytics, and community flood resilience.
His award-winning research, funded by many internal and external funding sources including the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Health, appears in numerous, peer-reviewed publications including the Journal of the American Planning Association, Landscape Journal, Environment and Planning B, Landscape Research, and Cities.
