For ably guiding the teaching and research of Texas A&M University faculty and helping them succeed in the promotion and tenure process, Anat Geva, professor of [architecture] (http://dept.arch.tamu.edu/) , earned the Outstanding Mentoring Award from the Texas A&M [Women’s Faculty Network] (http://wfn.tamu.edu/) .

The award, designated for associate or full professors who have served with distinction in the network’s voluntary mentoring program, was presented to Geva at a network-hosted May 4, 2017 luncheon.

“Professor Geva mentors faculty at all stages of their academic careers, from junior faculty working to obtain tenure, to senior scholars seeking to develop leadership portfolios,” said Dawn Jourdan, executive associate dean of the College of Architecture. “She models the behavior and work-life balance that faculty work to achieve and has mentored faculty during her entire career.”

Mentoring, said Geva, is about sharing one’s own experience, listening to the special circumstances of each mentee and helping them to succeed.

“I believe that each faculty member’s success is the university’s success,” she said.

Geva consistently demonstrates what an outstanding mentor should be, said Jia Wang, associate professor of adult education and human resource development and Geva mentee, in a letter of recommendation for the honor.

“She has truly become my role model, the kind of professional I aspire to become,” said Wang.

The award program included a discussion of gender and mentoring with panelists Geva, Mary Alfred, executive associate dean and professor in the College of Education and Human Development, Blanca Lupiani, executive associate dean of faculties, Adam Seipp, professor of history, and Sorin Sorescu, professor of finance.
