New chair honors Mann, studio leader for more than 50 years

Two prominent former architecture students have created a faculty chair to support the Texas A&M [Center for Health Systems & Design] (http://chsd.arch.tamu.edu) and to honor their former professor, George J. Mann, who has been leading healthcare design studios at Texas A&M since 1966.

An endowment for the new chair is slated to be fully funded by former students and friends of Mann and the CHSD by 2021, providing a constant stream of support for the center and its director.

The chair was created by Ronald Skaggs ’65 and Joseph Sprague ’70, two executives with HKS Inc., who recently pledged lead gifts to the [Texas A&M Foundation] (https://www.txamfoundation.com) .

The groundbreaking architecture for health specialization Mann created when he arrived at Texas A&M is focused on wellness rather than sickness.

Mann underscores this mindset when working alongside students in his health facilities studio design lab. It also guided him as he helped establish the CHSD, a joint venture of the College of Architecture and the College of Medicine, in 1983.
