College business office staffer nets two prestigious awards

For providing excellent staff support and adeptly coordinating the myriad activities overseen by the Texas A&M College of Architecture business office, and for her stellar work as a college representative on the [University Staff Council] (http://staff.tamu.edu/) , Faith Stringer, [business coordinator III] (http://employees.tamu.edu/compensation/titles-salaries/position-description/?titlecode=9285) , will receive a 2014-15 [President’s Meritorious Service Award] (http://employees.tamu.edu/recognition/pmsa/) .

The university-wide honor comes on the heels on another honor Stringer garnered in 2014, the Linda Todd Outstanding Support Staff Achievement Award, presented by the College of Architecture to the year’s most excellent staff member in honor of Linda Todd, who served on the Department of Architecture staff for 30 years.

Both honors include commemorative plaques and a cash award — $700 for the university and $1000 from the college.

Stringer and 14 other staffers from across the university will receive a President’s Meritorious Service Award in a special ceremony slated for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25 in Rudder Theatre.

She drew praise for both awards in several nomination letters.

“Year after year Stringer continues to be a top performer in our office,” said Kevin Gustavus, business administrator II. “The quality of her work has never been questioned, and it never warrants inspection. I fully trust that everything she produces is of the highest quality.”

“When you ask her for help getting something done, you are never in any doubt that it will be done completely, on time, on budget, with a smile and good cheer and with no fuss or bother,” said Geoffrey Booth, holder of the Youngblood Endowed Professorship in Land Development.

As a member of the University Staff Council, Stringer represents fellow College of Architecture staffers, weighing in on issues of importance, reporting council activities and sitting on five USC committees: worklife and benefits; staff development; strategic reallocation; strategic budget; and parking, transportation, facilities and infrastructure.

“Stringer not only helped the USC host its first-ever staff appreciation week, she single-handedly organized several staff appreciation activities at the College of Architecture,” said Chris Novosad, the college’s assistant dean for finance and administration.

Stringer is the most recent member of the College of Architecture staff to earn the president’s award, which was established in 1986.

Past college honorees include:

• Kevin Gustavus, business administrator II, 2014;
• Ian Muise, visual resources coordinator at the Technical Reference Center , 2013;
• Trisha Gottschalk, assistant to the head of the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning, 2012;
• Melinda Randle, assistant to the head of the Department of Architecture , 2009, and
• Bill Jenks, visualization laboratory director, 1989.

Nominations for the awards are accepted in the fall and an anonymous committee appointed by the university president selects the recipients.
