Design prof to lecture at April architecture celebration in D.C.

Participants attending a weeklong celebration of architecture in the nation’s capital will be able to learn about the history of “green” building design from Philip Tabb, professor of architecture at Texas A&M.

Tabb will lecture and sign copies of his new book, “ [The Greening of Architecture] (http://one.arch.tamu.edu/news/2014/1/29/tabb-co-authors/) ,” which he co-wrote with Senem Deviren, assistant professor of landscape architecture and urban design at Istanbul Technical University, at 6 p.m. April 22 at the [District Architecture Center] (http://aiadac.com/) , 421 7th St. N.W. in Washington D.C.

His appearance is part of [Architecture Week 2014] (http://aiadc.com/ArchitectureWeek) , hosted by the Washington, D.C. chapter of the American Institute of Architects, which features lectures, book signings and tours spotlighting the capital's architectural culture, including cultural organizations, institutions, neighborhoods and landmarks.

Tabb will discuss how the adoption of “green” technology and design, spurred by the environmental awareness movement of the 1960s, lowered negative environmental effects caused by buildings, urban designs and settlements, as well as sustainable architectural design and village planning with a focus on sacred building and place typologies.

Tabb, who joined the Texas A&M faculty in 2001, is the Liz and Nelson Mitchell Professor of Residential Design. He headed the [Department of Architecture] (http://dept.arch.tamu.edu/) from 2001 to 2005.
