Class Acts: Former student news

The College of Architecture encourages former students to submit news items for the Class Acts section of the arch|one e-newsletter. This section highlights professional achievements, as well as news briefs about marriages, births, retirements, bucket list accomplishments or whatever else former students care to share with the college community and their former classmates. CLASS OF 1986

[Jim Ogden] (http://www.3qcinc.com/team/index.php) (’86 BED) has been named by the Green Building Certification Institute to its inaugural class of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Fellows, a designation recognizing exceptional contributions to green building and significant professional achievement in the growing community of LEED professionals. Ogden, a principal at Sacramento-based [3QC] (http://www.3qcinc.com/) , has 25 years of experience focused on the environmental design, construction and management of facilities for public and private sector clients.

A founding member of the California Sustainable Building Task Force who helped develop of many of California’s current green building initiatives, Ogden serves as an advisor to the Division of the State Architect, where he participated in the development of the new [CalGreen Building Code] (http://calgreentraining.com/blog/) .

CLASS OF 1992

[Edward D. Garza] (http://www.arch.tamu.edu/community/formerstudents/outstanding-alumni/past-honorees/20/) (BLA ’92), an outstanding alumnus of the College of Architecture, was named to the advisory board of [iCue Network] (http://www.icuenetwork.com/) , an online academic coaching site. “We sought Mr. Garza's counsel due to his dedication to San Antonio schools and education in general,” said Mark Bowring, iCue CEO. “The foresight and purpose he has put into every other position held in the past made him a perfect candidate.” Garza, a former Alamo City mayor, is president and CEO of Urban One 30, a real estate development firm.

CLASS OF 1993

Ben Cornish (MSLD ’93) recently became the president, China for [Prologis] (http://www.prologis.com/about-us.html) after a recent merger with AMB Property Corporation.

CLASS OF 1998

Rachel Preston Prinz (BED ’95, MArch ’98) gave a TEDx Talk about using the architectural past to define a sustainable design future. Her [presentation] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmkIE0hfVko) can viewed on TEDxTalks YouTube channel.

CLASS OF 2006

Janette Shellenbarger Kunhel (BLA ’06) obtained her professional landscape architect license in June 2011. She currently works at [N.E.S. Inc.,] (http://nescolorado.com/) a landscape architecture and planning firm in Colorado Springs. She and her husband Kevin Kunhel, class of ’03, have lived in Colorado Springs since her marriage and graduation in 2006. Kevin is a civil engineer with a specialty in land development for J.R. Engineering.

Stephanie Strickland (ENDS ’08) was offered a job at Pixar Animation Studios as a Shading TD upon her graduation from the MS VIZ program in 2010. She has worked on films “Cars 2,” “La Luna” (a short film), and “Monsters University” (to be released in 2013).

Sean Shreder (BED ’08) has moved back to California after two years in Seattle working towards a graphic design degree.
