Family members view Ernest Langford collection at TRC

Members of the Ernest Langford family visited the [Technical Reference Center] (http://archone.tamu.edu/trc/) at Texas A&M’s College of Architecture June 27, 2011 to take a look at the center’s Langford collection, which contains more than 400 photographs and documents of one of the giants in the history of the university’s architecture program.

Langford headed the program for 27 years, 1929 through 1956, helping turn it into one of the best in the country.

Langford’s daughter in-law Jo Ann Langford, his grandson David Langford and David’s wife Myrna viewed the images and documents, some in new display cases, and received flash drives containing digital copies of the collection.

The family provided funds for TRC personnel to photograph, digitize and create a searchable database of the collection, which is ready for viewing at the TRC.

Many of the items in the Langford collection were saved through the years by college archivist John Only Greer, who retired this year after serving on the Texas A&M architecture faculty since 1962. Greer was on hand at the TRC unveiling to provide the family with historical and anecdotal insight on the collection.
