Regan leading committee to expand influence of global building network

Tom Regan

A global building and construction network’s efforts to expand its influence and recognition in North America will be headed by Tom Regan, professor of architecture at Texas A&M University.

Regan, who currently serves as North American Regional Committee chairman of the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB), will oversee an effort to increase membership in the council’s three primary categories: research, academic and industry/practitioner.

Established in 1953, the CIB counts more than 5000 experts in research and innovation in building and construction among its members. From its headquarters in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, the CIB seeks to stimulate and facilitate international cooperation and information exchange between governmental research institutes in the building and construction sector, with an emphasis on institutes engaged in technical fields of research.

Due to the CIB‘s limited exposure in North America, states a December 2010 release, and because the advantages of CIB differ depending on an organization’s category of membership, the benefits of membership are not known by the design and construction communities that could utilize research CIB provides.

The organization plans to concentrate on elevating U.S. membership, then develop membership campaigns in Canada and Mexico.

Regan, a former dean of Texas A&M’s College of Architecture, is also executive director and co-founder of the Architecture+Construction Alliance, a national organization of architecture schools that house architecture and construction degree programs.
