Ed Tarlton, an Urban and Regional Sciences Ph.D. student and Patrick Patterson, a Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning student, earned the J. Malon Southerland Aggie Leader Scholarship, established to reflect Texas A&M’s commitment to student involvement.

A scholarship endowment gradually funded over the last 18 years by 27 community outreach projects undertaken by students in professor Jon Rodiek's Master of Architecture studios at Texas A&M University reached fruition last fall, for the first time providing scholarships totaling $14,000 for eight new MLA students.

Earlier this month, the Maroon Coats, student ambassadors of the Texas A&M Foundation, organized an impromptu “thank you” note-writing session for students to share their gratitude with scholarship benefactors and gift givers who support College of Architecture programs.

Texas A&M former students have established three new endowments for professorships honoring the stellar careers of three much admired Department of Architecture professors — John Only Greer, Rodney Hill and David Woodcock — who have all taught generations of aspiring Aggie architects.

Texas A&M graduate visualization student Sarah Beth Eisinger’s work earned a $10,000 scholarship from Sony Pictures Imageworks, an Academy Award-winning, state-of-the-art visual effects and character animation company. She has previous experience at Pixar, Walt Disney Animation Studios and Google.

Five graduate students pursuing certificates in facility management at the Texas A&M College of Architecture earned scholarships from the International Facility Management Association, as well as travel/attendance packages for an October conference.

With a 2011 fellowship from the American Institute of Architects, Amy Kircher, an M.Arch student at Texas A&M, will design a prototype outpatient healthcare facility based on her research that suggests a new direction for preventative care building design and a new way of thinking about healthcare architecture.

Graduate visualization students won scholarships for their makers funded by major animation studios and former student animators. Former students at Pixar, DreamWorks Animation and Industrial Light and Magic made lists of the videos they deemed the best.
