The boundless nature of visualization studies at Texas A&M was celebrated in an interactive exhibition staged March 11–14 at South by Southwest, Austin’s giant annual convergence of festivals showcasing the interactive, film and music industries.

Using their digital and artistic skills, contestants vied for $5,000 in prize money by creating data-sourced concepts for a Texas A&M University campus free of physical and virtual barriers to the disabled as part of the Feb. 17-18, 2017 Diversity Accessibility Hackathon hosted by the Texas A&M College of Architecture Diversity Council.

Nominations for the 2017 College of Architecture Outstanding Alumni Awards are due by March 1, 2017. “This award recognizes the exemplary leadership, relentless pursuit of excellence, exceptional talents and numerous accomplishments of the recipients,” said Jorge Vanegas, dean of the Texas A&M University College of Architecture. “We strongly encourage those who know a former student deserving of this prestigious honor to nominate him or her.”

The unveiling of Starbucks’ 2016 holiday cups, an event eagerly anticipated by coffee fans throughout the world, included a cup featuring intricately-drawn poinsettias created by Christina Anderson, an senior landscape architecture student at Texas A&M.

Author Rex Miller, an expert in workplace team performance, discussed design as a key element of office culture in “How Engaging Workspaces Lead to Transformation and Growth,” the keynote address of the 18th annual faculty research symposium.

More than 200 students from 12 universities created video games from scratch in just 48 hours at Chillennium 2016, a game-building competition, or “game jam,” Sept. 23-25, 2016, hosted by the Texas A&M Department of Visualization.

Drawings by five Austin-based artists that push the boundaries of the medium will be featured in “At the Edge,” a Sept. 13 – Oct. 12, 2016 exhibit at the Wright Gallery, located on the second floor of building A in the Texas A&M University Langford Architecture Center.
