Three graduate students at Texas A&M pursuing [facility management certificates] (http://crs.arch.tamu.edu/students/facility-mgmt-certificate/) were awarded scholarships by an international FM foundation based on the students’ essays, leadership skills and letters of professional intent.
Janice Freeman and Kehui Zhu, [Master of Construction Management] (http://cosc.arch.tamu.edu/academics/graduate/) students, and Ying Yang, a [Master of Architecture] (http://dept.arch.tamu.edu/academics/graduate/master-architecture/) student, received $2000 each from the [International Facility Management Association] (http://www.ifma.org) , which aims to advance higher FM education, build FM knowledge and support FM talent.
Each student also received a complimentary registration package, including out-of-pocket-expenses, for the 2012 IFMA World Workplace Annual [Conference] (http://www.worldworkplace.org/?utm_campaign=WW2012&utm_medium=banner&utm_source=IFMA-hero) Oct. 31 – Nov. 2 in San Antonio.
“I’m proud that three Texas A&M students will be there to receive their scholarships and represent the College of Architecture and the Certificate in Facility Management,” said Sarel Lavy, certificate coordinator.
Freeman’s long-term goals include consulting with federal, state or local governments to establish and implement building performance and sustainability guidelines with the aim of making large-scale changes in how facilities affect the environment and people’s health and well-being.
Zhu plans on starting a firm offering consulting services in construction project management and facility management including project planning, lifecycle project management and construction project information technology.
Yang, who plans on becoming a building energy consultant, is researching heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems as an assistant researcher at Texas A&M’s [Energy Systems Lab] (http://esl.tamu.edu) .
