In two upcoming painting series, recently honored Texas A&M Art Fellow Felice House, assistant professor of visualization, will counter the centuries-old Western art tradition of portraying women through a “male gaze.”

A group of metal sculptures displayed outside The Arts Center in College Station, created by students in a visualization sculpture class, created quite a buzz in the Bryan/College Station area, said Chris Dyer, CEO of The Arts Council of Brazos Valley.

Viz-a-GoGo, the 23rd annual showcase of digital wizardry conjured by visualization students from the Texas A&M College of Architecture, was staged in downtown Bryan May 4-7, 2016.

Photographers will explore Texas’ character, mythology and environmental issues in “You Are Here: Texas Photographers Respond to the Texas Landscape,” an exhibit scheduled April 21 – June 2, 2016, in the Wright Gallery, Building A of the Langford Architecture Center.

For the second consecutive year, Texas A&M was recognized as one of the nation’s top animation schools, placing third among public institutions and second in the Southwest in new lists created by Animation Career Review.

Posters by the Guerrilla Girls, an anonymous group of female artists displaying statements about sexism and racism, and paintings by artist Robin Tewes depicting men’s vulnerability and fragility will be displayed in the Wright Gallery, located on the second floor in Building A of Texas A&M’s Langford Architecture Center.

Centuries-old churches and piazzas in Texas A&M’s study abroad venue in Italy were ideal subjects for design students learning to use sophisticated imaging equipment in a workshop directed by Robert Warden, director of the Center for Heritage Conservation.

"Thin Air," a large-scale installation made of approximately 1,000 laser-cut pieces of acrylic by Austin artist Beili Liu will be displayed Jan. 25-March 9, 2016 at the Wright Gallery located in the Langford Architecture Center Building A.

For heading a range of academic activities such as leading student development of natural interactions between people and computers, Jinsil Hwaryoung Seo, assistant professor of visualization, was recognized as a Montague-Center for Teaching Excellence Scholar.

In “Milky Way,” an art installation crafted from recycled plastic milk jugs, artist Weiling He, an associate professor of architecture at Texas A&M University, demonstrates how “design and labor can transform common household waste — the ugly — into the beautiful.”

As part of GIS Day at Texas A&M, the public helped artists, geographers and urban planners map some of the less tangible features of the Bryan/College Station landscape as they work to create a geospatial record of the region’s emotional topography.

Through next summer Wright Gallery patrons will experience drawings of increasingly inundated landscapes, a room-sized architectural installation, art protesting sexism, and exhibits featuring residential home designs and Texas landscape photography.

Texas A&M students explore transformable design, structures that can change form or configuration, in an exhibit through Sept 25 in at the J. Wayne Stark Galleries in the Memorial Student Center on the Texas A&M campus.

Dutch artist Theo Jansen will discuss Strandbeests, sculptures he makes with PVC pipe and wind-catching sails that resemble giant animals walking on the beach, at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18 in Rudder Theatre.

Miniature monsters inhabited real and virtual worlds after their creation by high school-age students in a 2015 summer camp co-sponsored by Texas A&M’s Institute for Applied Creativity.
