Alejandro Borges
An image that investigates the symbiosis of art, drawn by [Alejandro Borges] (https://www.alejandroborges.com/) , a member of the Texas A&M architecture faculty, is one of 75 pieces chosen from 960 entries by leading art curators and critics to appear in the prestigious [Fun House 2018] (http://www.barrettartcenter.org/fun-house-2018-calinfo/) exhibit in Poughkeepsie, New York.
The piece, “Invited,” is from Borges’ [Sublimation Series] (https://www.alejandroborges.com/1st-project) , an interpretation of the duality of architectural objects and their surrounding space. It will be shown May 12 – June 23 in the galleries of the Barrett Art Center’s historic [19th century townhouse] (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__maps.google.com_-3Fq-3D55-2BNoxon-2BStreet-2C-2BPoughkeepsie-2C-2BNew-2BYork-26entry-3Dgmail-26source-3Dg&d=DwMFaQ&c=ODFT-G5SujMiGrKuoJJjVg&r=ptCqnBVvWolCCqym7LNezDrWjPTulC7X15c5BsoNBPU&m=mKsXvAVCvqKlrRGO8SiekirPKMEJVva_7OdM1mzzAHA&s=TjaJOIELeT69cKdyx9hWkWgj5XoFAwJ926d96L8L3EQ&e=) .
The annual multimedia exhibit features art of the surreal, bizarre and fantastic. The show is meant to engage viewers with the real and unreal, the miniature and the gigantic, optics and illusion and the politics of display.
In his paintings, drawings, collages, sculptures and installations, Borges explores design concepts such as light, shadow, projection and transformation in a series of dichotomies such as order versus chaos and conscious versus unconscious states. His art has been in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
Borges counts urban and industrial design among his academic interests. He earned an undergraduate degree at Universidad Central de Venezuela in 1989 and a Master of Architecture degree at Cornell University in 1994.
