College of Architecture Faculty Biennial opens at Stark Gallery

The College of Architecture’s 22nd Biennial Faculty Art Show, featuring a wide range of artwork created by 23 members of the Texas A&M College of Architecture faculty, will run March 21 – May 14, 2017, at the [J. Wayne Stark Galleries] (https://www.google.com/maps/place/J+Wayne+Stark+University+Center+Gallery/@30.612428,-96.3434367,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x86468ff1d02902af:0xe2ed890cb12303ff!8m2!3d30.612428!4d-96.341248) in the Memorial Student Center.

The exhibit’s opening reception, set for 5:30 p.m. March 21, will feature live music by Morgan Jenks, a member of the Department of Visualization faculty whose work will be on display at the Biennial. A his exhibit performance, Jenks will employ video game controllers, Wacom tablets and other input devices to create shifting sonic textures including harmonious drones and algorithmically generated beats.

“The music will provide a soundtrack for the exhibit, which features a wide variety of pieces revealing the great breadth and depth of the college faculty’s creative talent,” said Howard Eilers, associate professor of visualization and coordinator of the exhibition.

The Biennial includes paintings of West Texas landscapes by Michael O’Brien, professor of architecture, drawings exploring light, shadow and transformation in architecture by Alejandro Borges Gonzalez, associate professor of the practice, an interactive “physics machine” that employs gravity, kinetics and centrifugal force to create random percussive sounds, by Sherman Finch, assistant professor of visualization, and more.

A longstanding college tradition, the Faculty Biennial has taken place every other year since it debuted in 1973, with the exception of 2011, when the MSC was closed for renovations.
