Tim McLaughlin
The history and future of visualization education at Texas A&M were two of many topics Tim McLaughlin, head of the [Department of Visualization] (http://viz.arch.tamu.edu/) , discussed in an [interview] (http://www.animationcareerreview.com/articles/tall-cotton-qa-tim-mclaughlin-visualization-head-texas-am) posted on the [Animation Career Review] (http://www.animationcareerreview.com/) website, a career resource for aspiring animators, game designers and digital artists.
McLaughlin, who has headed the department since its inception in January 2008, also discussed its growth from one to three degree programs and the unique nature of visualization studies, in which students inhabit both technical and artistic worlds.
He also said that while the globe’s top animation studios employ many Viz graduates, energy and medical companies’ expanding needs for 3-D and augmented reality visualizations are creating an even higher demand for the program’s former students.
McLaughlin’s interview is one of a series of Q & A sessions on the site, which the ACR bills as conversations with “some of the most interesting and knowledgeable people in the animation world.”
Texas A&M appeared on the site earlier in 2015, when an ACR analysis [ranked] (http://one.arch.tamu.edu/news/2015/5/4/texas-m-uss-top-animation/) the university as one of the nation’s best animation schools.
