Former students’ firm ranked in top five in K-12 built projects

[Gignac Architects] (http://www.gignacarchitects.com) , a Corpus-Christi-based design firm with two generations of former students holding Master of Architecture degrees from Texas A&M, was [ranked] (http://archrecord.construction.com/news/analytics/2014/1401-Market-Focus-K-12-Construction.pdf) fifth among all firms in the United States that designed K-12 education facilities with construction starts from Jan. 2011 through Oct. 2013 by Architectural Record magazine.

The rankings appeared in the publication’s January 2014 issue in a summary of statistics about school building starts nationwide.

“What’s interesting is that our firm only employs 17 people in our Corpus Christi and Harlingen offices, as compared to the many hundreds employed by the other ranked firms,” said Nick Gignac, an associate at the firm who earned a [Master of Architecture] (http://dept.arch.tamu.edu/graduate/master-architecture/) degree in 2010 and a [Bachelor of Construction Science] (http://cosc.arch.tamu.edu/academics/undergraduate/) degree in 2005.

Raymond Gignac, the firm’s principal in charge, earned a Master of Architecture degree in 1974 and a [Bachelor of Environmental Design] (http://dept.arch.tamu.edu/undergraduate/) degree in 1972.

The firm has designed [educational facilities] (http://www.gignacarchitects.com/?page_id=8) throughout South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley.

Other firms in Architectural Record’s top five were Ai3 Architects, PBK, Perkins + Will and the SHW Group.

Gignac Architects, which also offers interior and landscape design, planning and construction administration services, won an honor award in 2013 for its design of the city’s North Bayfront Park from Corpus Christi’s American Institute of Architects’ component.
