Former student is new head of national construction institute

Improving the recognition and acceptance of the [American Institute of Constructors] (http://www.professionalconstructor.org/Home/) ' construction certification programs is among the priorities of the organization's new president, David Fleming ’75, a former student of Texas A&M’s [Department of Construction Science] (http://cosc.arch.tamu.edu) and longtime member of its [Construction Industry Advisory Council] (http://cosc.arch.tamu.edu/industry/) .

Fleming, vice president and director of dispute resolutions at [Sundt Construction Inc] (http://www.sundt.com) , earned a Bachelor of Building Construction degree at Texas A&M.

“In the next 12 months AIC will earn American National Standards Institute accreditation for its Certified Professional Constructor and Associate Constructor certification [programs] (http://www.professionalconstructor.org/aboutccc/gettingcertified/choosingtherightcertification/) , which we feel will greatly improve their overall acceptance,” wrote Fleming in a [letter] (http://us2.campaign-archive2.com/?u=af26a69f374fbd50383aa20f7&id=ee310d1435) to AIC members. “We will also find new ways to promote our certifications to employers, owners, constructors, subcontractors, and the federal government.”

The AIC, he added, will continue to provide programs to promote ethics, education, leadership and higher standards of practice in the construction industry.

An avid supporter of the Texas A&M construction science program, Fleming often shares his decades of industry expertise with construction science students as a regular panelist at student industry ethics [presentations] (http://one.arch.tamu.edu/news/2012/4/25/cocsi-students-ethics/) . He and his wife also established the Katherine and David Fleming '75 Endowed Scholarship in Construction Science.
