Potter earns Legacy Award from women's former student group

Shelley Potter ’78, a Texas A&M’s College of Architecture Outstanding Alumna, received the 2011 Women’s Legacy Award from the Texas A&M Women Former Students’ Network at a Nov. 4 luncheon.

A past chairwoman of The Association of Former Students, she is president of POTTER, a design firm specializing in primary and secondary educational facilities, landscape architecture and planning.

Prior to her appointment as The Association’s chairwoman, Potter led its Building Enhancement Task Committee in the $17 million renovation to the Clayton W. Williams Jr. Alumni Center.

She has a long list of community service activities, including membership on the boards of the Longview, Texas Planning and Zoning Commission and Smart Growth Task Force. Potter served as president of the Junior League of Longview and the Longview 2020 forum, and is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Sandra Parét, president of the Women Former Students’ Network, is also a College of Architecture outstanding alumna. She earned a Bachelor of Environmental Design in 1980 and a Master of Architecture degree in 1982. She currently serves as senior vice president at HOK, an architecture and planning firm.
